The stories Harry told ended after 95 years, as he passed away peacefully in the arms of his daughter and wife on February 17, 2020 at Saint Martha’s Villa, Downingtown. He was the loving husband to Elizabeth M. (Bettie) nee Schilling, for 67 blessed years of marriage.
Harry honorably served his country for four years during the Second World War. He retired after 24 years as contract agent for Naval Sea Logistics Center. He had a life long passion for reading, gardening and making things grow.
Hours could easily pass with the endless stories about anything from his days in the military, growing up in Malvern, bingo at church, work achievements, family affairs, who he met at the market, who he knew in the obituaries any given week, etc.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Harry is survived by his children, Gregory, Mark (Carol), Brian, Deborah (Allan), Barry (Kimber); grandchildren, Laura, (Eric, dec’d), Darren (Julie), Breanna, Josh (Julie), Cameron, Cole, Brooke, Tina; 3 great grandchildren; and sister Ann Buckwalter.
Mass will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 10:30 AM at Saint Martha’s Manor Chapel, 490 Manor Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9:45am to 10:30am.
The burial of Harry’s ashes will be on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
