James T. Spaulding

James T. Spaulding, 76, of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was the beloved husband of Cheryl Cooper Spaulding, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.  Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late James and Mary Inge Spaulding.

Jim was an amazing and brilliant inventor, published author, teacher, sailor, general handyman, father, grandfather,  husband and so much more. 

Dedicated to education, Jim graduated from Salesianum High School, Villanova University B.S. in Mathematics, Immaculata University, MA in Education. and Penn State University with a Doctorate in Education at age 66. 

He began his career at the GE Aerospace Center designing heat shields for Voyager.   He helped develop the first computer blood analysis machine; the original coding for simulation software and the first bar coding.  He was the founder and President of Dolphin Marine Systems, the largest boating simulation software company in the US.  He later founded Lenape Associates, Inc. providing services to the pharma industry and educational training to corporations and universities. 

Later in his life he was a published author of several books including:  “Rebuilding Rose:  The Tale of an Atkins Packet Sloop” that documented his complete restoration of a 1959 wooden sailboat.  He published a science fiction series:  “Project Earth:  The Lost Colony:” and a dramatic novel based on his childhood in Delaware County, “The Girl in the Boy’s Club.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen and wife Laura Spaulding and their daughters Sarah and Erin; David and wife Janet Spaulding and their children Katie, James and Jessie; Jennifer and husband Rob Duff and their children Leah, Alanna and Logan.; Brother Tommy and wife Lynn Spaulding; Brother Chuck and wife Lynn Spaulding. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020 at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown.  Interment will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery.
