Jerome (Jerry) Ronald Katz – 89, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on May 4, 2021 after a brief yet fierce battle with Lymphoma. Jerry was born on March 11, 1932 in Paterson, NJ, where he spent his childhood. After graduating high school, he went on to earn his degree from Seton Hall University and his Master’s degree from Columbia University, both for mathematics. Jerry then began working at the Department of Defense (Civilian Services), as a naval engineer, where he enjoyed a rewarding career for 33 years, and retired from federal service in 1987.
Jerry’s passion and keen interest in scale-related collectibles and advertising material led him happily into his second career as an avid and busy antiques dealer. As a member of International Society of Antique Scale Collectors (ISASC), he acted in the role of Public liaison, performing appraisals, offering expert advice and insights, and fielding all scale-related inquiries. Jerry was also a skilled craftsman: carpenter, artist, and wood sculptor whose creations were proudly displayed in his home and his children’s homes.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary (Wolf); brother Robert Katz of Little Rock, AR; daughters, Ellen Murphy (Roger Munson), of Downingtown, PA, Wendy Walsh (Gerard Walsh), of Norwell, MA; and grandchildren Matthew Murphy (“Matty Mayhem”), Bryan Murphy (“Big B”), Emily Murphy (“Em”), and Eli Walsh (“George”).
The family will be celebrating Jerry in a private gathering.
