Tribute

John R. (Jack) Herman, Jr. of West Brandywine, PA, passed away at age 95 at Freedom Village on May 17, 2020. He was the loving husband of the late Florence T. Herman, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2018.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John and Freeda (Weaver) Herman. Jack grew up in Southwest Philadelphia and graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1942. He proudly served his country during WWII in the 1155th Engineer Combat Battalion in the United States Army. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad (later Conrail) for 45 years until his retirement in 1987. He and Floss lived in Aldan and Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, for most of their years raising their four children.

Jack’s many interests included gardening, baseball, big band music, singing, reading and genealogy. His love of photography led him to a part-time career as a wedding photographer. In retirement he and Floss loved traveling the world and spending winters in Florida.

He is survived by his children Cheryl Herman of North Port, FL, Sue Adams (Bob) of West Chester, Dave Herman (Joan) of West Chester and Rick Herman of Darby; his grandchildren Kevin Adams (Tracy), David Herman, Kimberly Gallagher (Sean), Kristen Herman, Emily Barletto (Chris), Courtney McEwan (Brandon) and Ryan Herman (Alissa); his great-grandchildren Jocelyn, Juliet and Joanna Adams, Vinny Herman, Max and Kade Gallagher, Olivia and Nolan Barletto and Brayden Herman; and nieces and nephews.
