Mark Alan Small

June 25, 1954 ~ February 24, 2020 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Tribute

Mark Alan Small, 65, of Downingtown passed away Monday, February 24, 2020. He was the son of James Richard Small and the late Dorothy Tison Small and husband to Pamela Small (nee Campbell) of 33 years of marriage together.

Anyone who knew Mark will remember his great sense of humor, his handiness and love of the outdoors and family. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he also had a long career as a software engineer. He worked the longest for Honeywell, where he once won an award that got the whole family a trip to Europe in the 1990s. The Smalls in Paris and Switzerland were not unlike the Griswalds on their European vacation.
Mark loved to fix things as much as he loved to build them. He built his kids a treehouse that still stands in the backyard of the home he shared with his wife, daughter and son for decades. He built the deck on that same house, and he helped build one on his parents’ and in-laws’ house too. He helped his son with countless renovations on his first house, and helped his daughter paint the nursery to prepare for her baby daughter. He showed equal aplomb at building kids’ science projects and undertaking ambitious electrical work. He was also a car mechanic in his younger years, which then made him well-prepared to patch up countless family cars.
Even if you never saw Mark fix something, if you met him you probably noticed his sense of humor. It was part dad joke, part dry wit, part shock jock, and all wickedly funny. He was also a fountain of knowledge about a host of subjects, and ceaselessly curious about the world around him and how things worked – a quality he passed down to his children via walks in the woods and a slew of family road trips. He was always teaching, and also always learning.
Mark fiercely loved his family, and he was the happiest when spending time with them. He loved to camp, hike, kayak and ride bikes – particularly with his kids and grandkids.
In addition to his wife, Pam, and father, James, Mark is survived by his children, Nathan Small (wife, Lynn), and Leslie Small (husband, Alex); grandchildren; Claudia, Vienna and Iris; siblings, Brian and Greg.
In addition to his mother, Dorothy, Mark is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Peggy Campbell.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020, 11:00AM at the James J. Terry Funeral Home Downingtown. A visitation will be held at the funeral home prior from 9:30AM – 10:45AM.
