William Gerard Mason Sr.

May 25, 1947 ~ August 2, 2020 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

William Gerard Mason, 73, of Exton, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Chester County Hospital, West Chester.

William was the son of the late John and Rita (DeMucci) Mason. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Slavin) Mason. The couple shared 46 years of marriage.

William was a retired Deputy Sheriff in Montgomery County. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church

In addition to his wife, William is survived by a daughter, Kate Mason, wife of Karyn Tucker, of Downingtown; and William “Bill” Mason, Jr., husband of Monica Mason, of Cochranville. He is also survived by granddaughters Emily and Amanda.

William “Bill” was a true “Philly Guy” who loved Philly Soft Pretzels, Water Ice, Cheese Steaks and WAWA. He was always wearing a hat or shirt from the Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers. He got to sit front and center at the Art Museum for the Eagles Super Bowl Parade in 2018. When he wasn’t rooting for his Philly sport teams, he would be taking granddaughter Amanda and special needs granddaughter Emily to Museums, Aquariums and other special events.

Bill also had a great love for animals. He leaves behind 2 cats Ellie and Moe. Every dog would stop to say hello and any stray would find him.

Bill’s love extended into his church and community. In June 2011, Bill was installed as Verger at St. James Episcopal Church of Downingtown. He would also donate and volunteer at food pantries. Most recently Bill joined Surrey Services for seniors where he began to enjoy balance and strength training, chair yoga and line dancing. There was basically no activity that Bill was not up for. You could call him anytime and he would be there, always ready for a “wild party” and some scrapple. “Fly Eagles Fly”

An outside socially distant memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020 at William Jr.’s home, 418 Homeville Road, Cochranville, PA 19330, at 11am.  A visitation will be held 10-11am.
